Hey everyone
I only have a few minutes so I am going to keep this post short and sweet. Right now we are in Glenorchy (45 minutes out of Queentown) and we are getting ready to do our next tramp, the Reese-Dart. Glenorchy is really... nice it reminds me a lot of Gustavus, Alaska. Nice small town with a little golf course and not much else. The past few days have been good. We had a chance to do some rock climbing out of queenstown at a spot called Wye Creek (awesome spot with crazy shist rock)...before that we did the Kepler track which was a beauitful tramp through the Kepler mountains outside of Te Anau. The tramp was really enjoyable and definitely one of the most beautiful spots I have ever been to.
So for now I am going to sign off, but stay tuned for a post about the Reese-Dart track...its going to be awesome! Highlights we are looking forward to: The Cascade Saddle...seeing a ton of big glaciers and being in the high apline area in Mt. Aspiring National Park.
So stoked for this next tramp and I'll do a legitmate post as soon as I get a chance!

hey AJP and David...the "Followers" disappeared...I was in the process of adding Dakota as one of your followers complete with mtn hiking photo...do you need to check this on your end or is it a Google issue or maybe problem with my computer...the blog comes up fine and is great to follow...I've sent it to all the Pauls and some friends
ReplyDeleteShistheads,
ReplyDeleteHit Wanaka for some quality rock (still shist but bolted and less sharp. You won't cringe before mono-digit stabs and there are underclings and jugs-a-plenty) Grab a guidebook, (full of useful info: the long drop toilet near roadside is good for when the coffee dwarf comes a knockin' at the backdoor), and hit roadside, riverside, and the tombstone to start and head up to whale rock if you want to get your butts kicked. When you're tired of climbing take a dip in the river or at the cove at the end of the lake (Caity and I camped there for about a month as we climbed about 100 or so routes in the area. Also hit the Rob Roy and charge it for a rest day for the forearms) Hope the day is clear for you today; I figure you're up above the Dart Glacier on your way to the saddle as I write. I'm living vicariously through you three. Keep shredding Jimbotron! If you're looking for a true alpine adventure and have a good weather window anytime soon go up to Cook and do Ball Pass.
Let's do a Muir trail thru hike when you all get back.

Updated status: Jim Schultz my-main-man= fallen soldier. Fearing he had some sort of a tear in his hip midway through the Rees-Dart, he discussed with the hut warden at Dart hut his options and opted to take advantage of NZ's socialized healthcare and took a free helicopter flight down...they even took him over the Dart Glacier which was a 19k day for David and I walking the Cascade Saddle to the Pylon.
ReplyDeleteHe said the paramedics and pilot were "stoked for the ride as well"...
A man of many maladies, poor Jimmithy is back in Wanaka at the YHA hostel and is down and out with the flu.
All is well up here and we're planning our next tramp/ last 10 days of adventure. Jim plans to take the bus to meet us in 2 or 3 days.
